Portland Roasting Coffee's secret for making delicious coffee

Use fresh, pure water
Good coffee starts with good water. Take your water from the cold tap,
and filter it.

Store beans properly
Portland Roasting does not store roasted coffee. They roast and ship it immediately. In fact, their beans are often still warm when they are shipped. Always store your coffee in an airtight container, away from heat, moisture and light.

Perfect your grind
Frankly, grinding coffee is serious business and it's just too rich of a subject to cover in this space. So we'll keep it simple: Only grind what you will be using immediately. If you use a blade-type grinder, while grinding hold the lid down with one hand and shake it like a martini. This will yield a more even grind and reduce the amount of powdery grounds which can make coffee bitter. Better yet, invest in a good quality burr-type grinder, available at better kitchenware stores. You'll taste the difference.

Keep it fresh
Remember, glass carafes and other containers should never be left on the burner for more than 10 minutes. An airtight thermos-type container is the preferred hot storage container and will keep hot coffee fresh considerably longer.

Portland Roasting goes to a lot of trouble to select the finest arabica beans and roast them to perfection batch after batch. That is why their award-winning blends are preferred by the finest coffee houses and restaurants in the Northwest.

If you follow these basic guidelines, your coffee will be consistently rich, delicious and deeply satisfying.
